Andalusia's Breast Cancer Screening Crisis: 2,000 Women Await Further Testing
The Andalusian Government is facing a serious issue with its breast cancer screening program. María Jesús Montero, the First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Finance, has described the situation as 'the symptom of the collapse of the Andalusian public health system'.
The breast cancer screening program in Andalusia invites half a million women annually for testing, with results showing lesions with signs of malignancy, no lesions, or suspicious signs. However, the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) has recently discovered that 2,000 women have received inconclusive test results and are awaiting further testing.
The Andalusian Government has not minimized the problem and is currently reviewing the entire breast cancer screening process. Montero questioned whether the Andalusian president knew the number of affected cases on the first day. The SAS has begun contacting these women one by one.
Affected women are considering a collective lawsuit due to delays in treatment and communication of suspicious results. The Andalusian Councilor for Health and Consumption, Rocío Hernández, has ruled out resigning following the detected errors in the breast cancer screening process.
The Andalusian Government acknowledges the issue, with 2,000 women recognized as awaiting further testing. The SAS is working to contact these women and resolve the situation. The future of those affected and the breast cancer screening program in Andalusia remains uncertain.
