Baden-Württemberg Warns: Asbestos Risks in Renovations
Property owners and craft businesses in Baden-Württemberg are being urged to stay informed about asbestos risks during renovations. The Ministry of the Environment and Crafts BW, along with President Rainer Reichhold of Baden-Württemberg Crafts Day, are stressing the importance of clear information and cooperation for safe renovations.
Asbestos, a carcinogenic substance often unrecognizable to the naked eye, can pose serious health risks even in small amounts. The Hazardous Substances Ordinance now requires craft businesses to be informed about the presence of asbestos in buildings they work on. Private individuals are also obligated to comply with these regulations when dealing with asbestos in their households.
To raise awareness, a brochure titled 'Asbestos in Buildings - The Hidden Danger' has been created. It provides crucial information on handling asbestos safely and the risks involved, especially during demolition, renovation, or maintenance. Property owners have information and cooperation obligations regarding asbestos in their buildings. Environment Minister Thekla Walker emphasizes the need for everyone to be informed about these risks and proper handling procedures.
The Ministry of the Environment and Crafts BW are promoting awareness about asbestos during renovations of older buildings. The brochure is available for download, and craft businesses are encouraged to stay informed. For specific details about the distribution of the brochure and involvement of local associations, one can contact the Ministry or the Landesverband des Baden-Württembergischen Handwerks.
