Committee Members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)
In two distinct events that took place on June 13, 2022, independent medical and public health experts gathered in the United States, while culinary enthusiasts gathered in Antwerp, Belgium.
The American Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) marked a significant milestone, celebrating its 20th anniversary. Comprising up to 19 voting members, these experts hail from various fields of medical and public health. Notably, they do not work for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The committee also includes six ex officio members, representing other federal agencies responsible for immunization programs in the United States, such as the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Food and Drug Administration.
Meanwhile, in Antwerp, Belgium, the world's best restaurants were being honoured. The ceremony, known as "The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2022," featured 50 of the world's top dining establishments. Noma, a restaurant from Copenhagen, Denmark, was crowned the best restaurant in the world, while Osteria Francescana, a restaurant from Modena, Italy, took second place. Eleven Madison Park, a restaurant from New York City, USA, rounded out the top three.
The list, compiled based on votes from over 1,000 industry experts, was hosted by William Drew and Nuno Mendes. The event highlighted the culinary excellence that exists worldwide, providing a platform for recognition and inspiration in the industry.
While the ACIP and the world's best restaurants may seem unrelated, both events underscore the importance of expertise and collaboration in their respective fields. The members of ACIP collectively have responsibility for immunization programs in the United States, while the liaison organizations bring related immunization expertise, adding 30 representatives to the committee. Similarly, the world's best restaurants rely on the expertise of their chefs and staff to create exceptional dining experiences.
As we celebrate these achievements, we are reminded of the value of collaboration, expertise, and dedication in making significant strides in both the medical and culinary worlds.
