Complimentary yoga, self-defense classes, and walking sessions available
In Astana, Kazakhstan, a series of free sports and fitness projects are actively encouraging residents to embrace an active lifestyle and promote a culture of regular exercise.
For the third year in a row, free classes with famous boxer Vasily Tukhatai have been held in the capital, with this year's program including Koktal Park. Adaptive physical culture classes have also started in the Triathlon Park as part of the "Astana - City Without Drugs" campaign.
The location of the Funny Sport events includes Central Park, Triathlon Park, Zhetysu, and other public recreation areas. This summer sports project continues until September 1, with no age restrictions for participants. Three times a week in the evenings, classes will be held at six parks in the capital. The exact schedule and detailed information about the Funny Sport project will be published on the department's social media platforms.
Free sports events and master classes are also held as part of the Aulafit project. Last year, 15 professional trainers worked with 3,000 enthusiasts in 30 courtyards of the capital. Aulafit classes are held in 30 courtyards across six districts from Monday to Saturday until the end of September, with no age restrictions for participants. The schedule and addresses of the training sessions are published on the social media pages of the Astana Physical Culture and Sports Department and the Aulafit project.
Residents can also look forward to free yoga and Nordic walking classes starting from early August. These projects impact the community by encouraging wide participation in physical activity, raising public health awareness, and creating social cohesion.
Azamat Agzamov, a speaker, stated that the Funny Sport project is a concrete manifestation of the work aimed at popularizing mass sports among Astana residents. Such initiatives contribute to promoting healthy lifestyles by making sports accessible and linking fitness with broader health education and support networks in Astana.
In addition to these projects, related free fitness initiatives like all-inclusive boxing classes are promoted through partnerships with organizations focusing on accessibility in fitness.
Two other notable events in Astana are the Astana Half Marathon and the Jüregımnıñ Jenımpazy running event. The Astana Half Marathon, a major annual running event, attracts thousands of participants and encourages both beginners and experienced runners to participate. The Jüregımnıñ Jenımpazy running event, held annually since 2018 to support patients awaiting organ transplants, offers free training sessions with coaches and includes race distances of 1.3 km and 10 km.
