The construction industry in New Mexico is taking a significant step towards building a stronger, healthier industry for all. On September 11, the Associated General Contractors of New Mexico (AGC New Mexico) will be hosting the second annual AGC New Mexico Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Summit.

This summit, which is the state's only construction-focused event of its kind, aims to address unique challenges faced by construction workers and promote mental health resources and suicide prevention strategies within the construction sector.

AGC New Mexico is leading the charge in this initiative, recognising mental health as being of equal importance to jobsite safety. Last year, they provided QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide prevention training to over 30 industry personnel.

The summit will feature two nationally renowned keynote speakers, regional training providers, and mental health specialists. Participants will receive training and resources to help identify distress symptoms, assist colleagues with difficulties, and create supportive environments.

In addition to the summit, AGC New Mexico's mental health initiatives extend beyond the annual event. They have formed a new training partnership with Santa Fe Community College, an announcement for which is expected this year.

Construction leaders in New Mexico are encouraged to join the summit and contribute to the ongoing efforts to improve mental health in the construction industry. For general questions or concerns, email [email protected].
