Contamination Found in Grilled Sausage Test - Warning of Hazardous Substances Issued

Thought vegan sausages were a healthy swap for meaty ones? Öko-Test's investigation has other plans. They unearthed some concerning substances lurking in many popular vegan grilled sausages!

Shocking Revelation: Veggie Sausages Hide Unwanted Guests

These meatless wonders might boast lower fat and equivalent protein, but Öko-Test's examination of nineteen products last year revealed a grim truth: Fourteen sausages testing positive for mineral oil components! Yikes!

Most alarming was the discovery of three organic products sporting elevated levels of mineral oil hydrocarbons. These compounds, potentially hazardous to health in the long run, may accumulate in body fat. A worrying fact for those counting on the plant-based version for safety. But hold on, there's more: More than half of the tested lineup contained excessive salt, with two sodium-heavy brands endangering a child's daily intake recommendation just with two sausages! Needless to say, questionable additives like thickeners and artificial flavors also made an unwelcomed appearance. No natural vibes here!

The Ener Bio Tofu Sausages in Bratwurst style from Rossmann were the sole product to earn the coveted "very good" title. Their tastiness and nutritional profile stole the show all round. "Good" scores went to Alnatura Vegan Bratwurst (Seitan & Tofu), Bio Bio Vegan Grill Sausages (Netto), and Tofutown Vegan Bratknacker (Kokku).

However, five products bombed the test: Gutfried WieBratwurst, Dennree Vegan Sausages Franconian Style, Purvegan Alberts Lupine Rostbratwurst, Rügenwalder Mühle Vegan Rostbratwurst, and Bio Company Seitan Sausages. Save yourself the health shock, plant-based enthusiasts - inspect the labels carefully, for not everything vegan is safe to gulp!
