The 29-year-old defendant, who did not plead guilty, was found guilty of animal cruelty. The verdict is yet to be deemed final. The cat, named Felix, was seized by an animal clinic in June 2024, after the owner reported he had stopped eating and appeared to be in distress. A urinary blockage was diagnosed, requiring immediate treatment. Yet, despite being advised of the cat's discomfort and potential risk of death, the owner rejected the treatment due to monetary concerns. She also declined to relinquish Felix to an animal shelter where arrangements for his care could have been made. Two days later, Felix passed away.
The woman now faces 80 days in prison, with each day carrying a €35 fee, in addition to the fine.
