First victim: Red Louse plague of Krasnoyarsk awoke prematurely
In the Krasnoyarsk region, the first tick bite of the season has been recorded, marking an unusual start to the tick season. A 39-year-old woman was the unfortunate victim, getting bitten by a carrier of dangerous diseases on the cemetery in Baдалыk, Krаsnoyarsk.
According to Roспотребнадзор, the tick chose a popular spot for attachment, lurking near her ear.
The victim later reported the incident to a lab to check if the tick was infected with any pathogens.
Officials noted that the tick attack happened "a bit earlier than usual". For instance, last year such an incident occurred on April 2. Ticks tend to become active as Krasnoyarsk sees an abnormally warm weather for March, which has helped to wake them up early from their winter hibernation[2].
The early tick activity can be attributed to favorable climatic conditions that cater to ticks, such as an early spring onset and increased humidity. These factors have prompted ticks to begin seeking hosts before the typical start of the tick season[3]. So, remember to watch out for those bloodsuckers when you're out and about!
