Fourth Medication Error in Greece: Nurse Blunder Hospitalizes Patient

A 22-year-old patient at Attikon University General Hospital in Greece has suffered a serious allergic reaction after being given the wrong medication by two nurses. This is the fourth such incident in Greek hospitals this year.

The patient's health status is now being investigated following a forensic examination ordered by authorities. Fortunately, the patient's condition was stabilised promptly, and no transfer to the intensive care unit was required.

This incident follows a series of medication errors in Greek hospitals. In June last year, a 62-year-old woman died at Tzaneio Hospital in Piraeus after receiving anincorrect blood transfusion. In September, three medical staff members were arrested for administering the wrong blood type to a 67-year-old patient. Earlier this month, a 28-year-old pregnant woman died at Arta General Hospital due to an allergic reaction to an antibiotic.

The patient's father has filed a complaint, leading to the temporary arrest and charging of the two nurses involved in the latest incident with negligent bodily harm.

These incidents highlight the urgent need for improved medication safety protocols in Greek hospitals. Authorities are investigating the causes of these errors to prevent future occurrences and ensure patient safety.
