Gazan Residents Receive Two Million Meals Amidst Ongoing Crisis
Gaza Foundation Dispenses Over Two Million Food Rations to Civilians in Need
Since its establishment earlier this month, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has distributed over two million meals to residents of the Gaza Strip. This equates to approximately 23,000 food packets distributed through three established distribution centers [1].
The dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip continues to escalate, with significant casualties, displacement, food insecurity, and a shortage of basic necessities [2]. The situation has worsened since March 2025, following renewed hostilities and the blocking of aid deliveries by Israel.
Israel initially halted all humanitarian aid deliveries in March, before subsequently resuming attacks in the area [1]. Despite some easing of the blockade, the resumption of aid has been limited, and many individuals in the contested coastal strip remain in a desperate condition, with shortages of food, drinking water, medicine, and other essential goods [2].
The Gaza Strip has faced 19 months of conflict and severe restrictions on aid, leading to a critical risk of famine for its entire population [3]. More than half a million people are at risk of starvation, with over a million facing emergency-level food insecurity and nearly 470,000 facing catastrophic levels [3].
While the GHF's relief efforts have focused on providing food assistance, other humanitarian organizations in Gaza also work to deliver emergency medical care, shelter, and protection against sexual abuse and exploitation [4]. Efforts include the maintenance of mechanisms like the SAWA hotline for reporting incidents [4].
Since the resumption of limited aid delivery on May 19, some food, nutrition supplies, and medical items have entered Gaza [5]. However, hospitals and health facilities remain affected, with 686 health attacks having occurred between October 2023 and May 2025 [3].
The ongoing conflict, restrictions on essential services, and lack of accountability for aid delivery have created numerous challenges for humanitarian organizations working in Gaza [2]. Ensuring sustained humanitarian access and protection for vulnerable populations remains a priority [5].
