Gesunde Kommune Kreis Viersen Network Aims to Promote Health Awareness

The 'Gesunde Kommune Kreis Viersen' network, a joint initiative of Kreis Viersen and KreisSportBund Viersen e.V., aims to promote health awareness in the school community and beyond. Funded by AOK Rheinland/Hamburg, Barmer, and Techniker Krankenkasse until April 2027, the network seeks to educate and engage students and the wider community in sustainable health practices.

The 13-week program covers a range of topics, including nutrition, sustainability, and mental and physical health. On September 25th, the waste management department of Kreis Viersen and Foodsharing collaborated to educate ninth-grade students about food waste and rescue. The students learned how to prepare a healthy snack using rescued food, which they then enjoyed together.

The network's goal is to educate students holistically, practically, and sustainably about a health-promoting lifestyle. Following the action day, students will apply their newfound knowledge by preparing healthy snacks for their school community and creating a cookbook to share their creations. Further action days, publication of health tips, training of multipliers, and cooperation with local partners are planned to expand the network's impact.

The 'Gesunde Kommune Kreis Viersen' network, with its comprehensive approach to health education, is set to make a significant impact on the school community and beyond. Through its engaging and practical activities, the network aims to foster a culture of health and sustainability that will benefit both students and the wider community.
