Los Angeles-residing Mexican girl faces potential loss of vital treatment due to sudden revocation of family's legal immigration status.

A four-year-old Mexican girl with a rare intestinal condition is at risk of losing critical medical care in the United States due to the sudden revocation of her family's legal immigration status.

The girl, identified only by the initials S.G.V., has short bowel syndrome, which prevents her body from absorbing nutrients from regular food. Instead, she receives lifesaving intravenous nutrition through a treatment called Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN).

Her mother, Deysi Vargas, expressed her deep concern over the potential deportation in her home country, where adequate medical care for S.G.V.'s condition is unavailable. "If they deport us and take away my daughter's access to her specialized care, she will die," she stated at a press conference.

The girl's condition has significantly improved since receiving medical care in the United States. Before arriving in the U.S., she was struggling in Mexico, receiving treatments for extended hours in a hospital bed.

The family, which originally entered the country using the CBP One app, was granted humanitarian parole to seek medical treatment for S.G.V. Since arriving, she has been under the care of doctors at one of the nation's leading gastroenterology programs at the Children's Hospital in Los Angeles.

However, their humanitarian parole expired during July, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) terminated their parole and work authorization. In response, the family has submitted a new application for humanitarian parole. The agency did not respond to a request for comment.

The revocation of the family's parole has sparked outrage among the girl's legal team, who argue that deportation would be detrimental to S.G.V.'s life. Attorneys at Public Counsel, representing the family, believe that the decision was made without proper consideration of the child's critical medical needs.

Democratic representatives, including California Sens. Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff, have written to the Department of Homeland Security, urging them to reconsider the case.

As the family awaits a decision on their parole application, they remain in limbo, uncertain about their future in the U.S. If the family is deported, S.G.V.'s TPN equipment, necessary for her survival, cannot travel outside the country, making it difficult to find suitable care elsewhere.
