Hettenshausen Creates First 'Star Children' Memorial Site
Hettenshausen is set to establish a memorial site at its cemetery for 'star children', a term used for stillborn babies or those who pass away during birth, weighing less than 500 grams or born before the 24th week. This will be the first such option available in the town.
Until now, Hettenshausen has not had a specific place for families to remember and honour these precious lives. The new memorial site aims to provide a dignified space for grieving families to visit and pay their respects.
The initiative is led by Sybille Galle and Heide Hindrich, who have been instrumental in making this happen. They hope that this site will bring some comfort to those who have experienced such a loss.
While there is no legal requirement to bury these babies, hospitals have been obligated since 2004 to provide a respectful space for families to mourn. The Hettenshausen memorial site will serve this purpose within the community.
The memorial site for 'star children' in Hettenshausen is a significant step towards providing families with a place to remember their lost babies. It reflects the community's care and respect for these tiny lives, offering a space for reflection and remembrance.
