Hoxworth, UC, & Reds Team Up to Boost Blood Donations, Reward Platelet Donors
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, and Cincinnati Reds have joined forces to boost blood donations and reward donors in April. The partnership aims to meet local hospital demands and enhance the donor experience.
Hoxworth requires at least 50 platelet donors daily to satisfy regional hospital needs. Platelet donations are available seven days a week at Hoxworth's seven Neighborhood Donor Centers. The process takes roughly 90 minutes, and donors can give every two weeks. Platelets, with a shelf life of 5-7 days, are transfused almost immediately after donation. They are crucial for preventing excessive bleeding in patients undergoing cancer treatment, surgery, organ transplants, and those with blood disorders.
The partnership between Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, and Cincinnati Reds is encouraging platelet donations to meet local demands and rewarding donors with unique experiences and gifts. Platelet donors play a vital role in saving lives, and this collaboration aims to recognize and appreciate their contributions.
