Flood Protection Exercise Scheduled in Neuss on October 30

Residents of Neuss, Germany, are advised of a flood protection exercise scheduled for October 30, 2021, at Hansastraße at Harbour Basin 2. This collaborative event, led by the Neuss Deep Construction Management (TMN) and the Neuss local unit of the Technical Relief Agency (THW), aims to prepare local emergency services and authorities for effective response to potential flooding events.

The exercise area will be marked with a no-parking zone at least four days prior to the event, and Hansastraße will be closed in both directions from 8 am to approximately 5 pm on the day of the exercise. Wall Gate 21 on Hansastraße will also be closed during this period. A detour via Danziger Straße will be available during the closure of Hansastraße.

Participating agencies will include local fire departments, police, civil protection units, water management authorities, and volunteer organizations. Activities during the exercise will include setting up temporary flood barriers, simulating evacuation procedures, testing water pumps, communication drills, and assessing the readiness of equipment and personnel. The primary goals of the exercise are to identify weaknesses in flood defenses, enhance inter-agency collaboration, familiarize participants with emergency protocols, and ultimately improve community resilience against real flood events.

It is important to note that this flood protection exercise was originally scheduled for a previous year but had to be postponed twice.
