Confidential court hearings set for the rape case accusations against businessman Samir Modi at Saket court.

In-camera trial scheduled for the alleged rape case involving Samir Modi, at the Saket court.

Samir Modi, a prominent individual, found himself in legal trouble recently when he was taken into custody at the airport while attempting to leave the city. The arrest was made by police personnel from the New Friends Colony Police Station, following a rape allegation.

The complaint against Modi was received in 2019, and the incident is said to have occurred during his professional association with the complainant, a former colleague. The Saket Court in Delhi has registered an FIR against Modi under Sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

The woman, who had reportedly been in a live-in relationship with the accused for the past seven to eight years, had allegedly been trying to lodge an FIR for some time. However, after approaching the court recently, the police were prompted to take action.

The Saket Court has decided to conduct in-camera proceedings in the rape case against Samir Modi due to its sensitivity. The defense, represented by Meera Sehgal, requested a "passover" from the court, citing the arrival of a senior counsel to represent him. However, the court passed over the case for a short period due to this request.

The Saket Court has also granted an extension of two days for the police remand of Samir Modi, overriding the defense's opposition to the extension. The defense argued that bail hearings are not typically conducted in-camera, but the court ensured that the case would be heard without public access to protect the privacy and dignity of the victim.

The complainant's lawyer argued for privacy due to the delicate circumstances surrounding the victim and the ongoing investigation. According to The Indian Express, the woman had allegedly demanded Rs 50 crore to settle the matter, but no further details about this claim have been confirmed.

As of now, no further court proceedings or decisions in relation to the case have been reported. Modi was later produced before a court, but the outcome of the hearings remains unknown. The defense and the complainant's lawyer's arguments or requests beyond the initial proceedings have not been provided in this paragraph.
