First Stationary Hospice in Circle Herford Takes Shape

The renovation of Unter den Linden 41, a nearly 150-year-old building in Herford, is progressing steadily. This historic building will soon become the first stationary hospice in the Circle Herford.

The foundation that acquired the building in September 2021, financing the construction costs, remains unnamed in the search results. However, it's known that the Circle Herford's 'Future in the Wittekind Circle' foundation and Sparkasse Herford are contributing to the project's funding.

The renovation project includes the construction of an annex with around 2,200 m² of gross floor area. This new addition will house ten guest rooms, a barrier-free elevator, and common areas. Deep construction work on the new building has been completed, and the cellar walls have been concreted. The roof work has been finished, and the windows have already been installed. The renovation of the outer facade is running parallel.

Architect Byron-Leigh Brown is overseeing the project, ensuring that the renovation adheres to monument protection regulations. The interior design will aim to create a bright, cozy, and homely atmosphere, avoiding a hospital-like ambiance.

The operator of the hospice will be Hospiz Herford gGmbH, a non-profit and joint subsidiary of the Diakonisches Werk in the Kirchenkreis Vlotho and the Kirchenkreis Herford. The head of the house and the position of the nursing service manager are already competently filled at Hospiz Herford gGmbH.

Hospiz Herford gGmbH does not intend to be a competitive offer to the outpatient hospice services and facilities. Instead, they aim for a close and trusting cooperation with other hospice services for the benefit of those who need them. They are actively establishing cooperations regarding general practitioner and emergency care for their guests.

Landrat Jürgen Müller, chairman of the supervisory board of the 'Future in the Wittekindskreis' foundation, emphasizes the importance of the hospice for the Circle Herford and the growing importance of hospice and palliative care. Donations are still needed for the hospice and can be made to the foundation fund within the 'Zukunft im Wittekindskreis' foundation or directly to the hospice at Sparkasse Herford. A transfer can be made to the foundation with the reference 'Donation - Foundation Fund 'Hospice and Palliative Care in the District of Herford''.

Hospiz Herford gGmbH aims for a cooperative relationship with other hospice services, not competition. They are working towards providing the best possible care for those in need, and the community's support is crucial in making this vision a reality.
