In Ülemiste City, a state-of-the-art health center and nursing home establishments cement its position as the foremost health cluster in the Baltic realm.

Freshening Up Ulemiste City's Health Scene

Get ready to witness Ulemiste City's health sector undergo a transformative leap as they aim to establish the most advanced integrated health ecosystem in the Baltic States. The upcoming Health Centre 3, set to rise in 2027, and the Viktor Masing House (a.k.a. the Pihlakodu nursing home, though the latter remains unconfirmed), are set to play pivotal roles in this ambitious expansion.

Sten Pärnits, from Mainor Ulemiste's management board, shares that this health cluster development is a strategic focus for the developers, heralding a progressive approach to enhance the community's health and wellbeing.

"The cluster is already one of the dominant players in the local health scene, offering diverse prevention and treatment services, and spearheading medical innovation," he remarked. "The addition of Health Centre 3 will mark a major step towards creating a modern, integrated healthcare environment here. The overwhelming interest among service providers and consumers, coupled with the success of the previous health centers, spurred the construction."

The Viktor Masing House, Estonia's leading nursing home provider, will occupy Health Centre 3. If the rumors are true, this nursing home will carry a Scandinavian-inspired approach, integrating residents into the community rather than segregating them.

Merike Merirand, a member of Pihlakodu's management board, is thrilled about the opportunity to forge connections between generations and ensure residents are an active part of a welcoming and caring environment.

"This approach addresses the prevalent issue of loneliness among the elderly, a common struggle in nursing homes," she explained. "Ulemiste City boasts a vibrant community program that promises abundant opportunities for social interactions and leisure activities. Given that many older people come from urban apartments before entering care, the chance to maintain rural living will be hugely appreciated."

The nursing home will offer various care services, while combining other health, wellness, and treatment services within the same vicinity for seamless access. This integrated approach will enhance healthcare access, an issue often faced in nursing homes but crucial to their residents' health.

Future partnerships with medical firms, innovation companies, and educational institutions may also unfold, nourishing exchange programs, volunteering opportunities, and revolutionary ideas to better the quality of care services.

As the nursing home advances, prospects of incorporating cutting-edge medical technology and smart solutions will emerge, promising to deliver modern and enhanced care services for improved resident quality of life and prompt medical attention when needed.

Joining Pihlakodu will be a dazzling array of healthcare providers like GPs, a fertility treatment clinic, an eye clinic, a physiotherapy center, and dentists.

In addition, green spaces will expand within Ulemiste City as part of each new development phase, including a private park for the nursing home's residents and guests. Committed to environmental consciousness, the same commitment is expected for the health cluster projects.

The construction of the new 7700 m2 health center will cost a hefty 18 million euros, with the architectural design closely resembling Health Centre 2, courtesy of the same architectural firm, Apex Arhitektuuribüroo. The building's contractors will be sought via tenders, with the call for proposals due in April and contract award anticipated by mid-July.

A Comprehensive Health Hub

Ulemiste City's health cluster has been steadily developing to cater to the escalating demand for healthcare services. Last autumn witnessed the launch of the Von Baer Health Centre, equipped with a top-tier diagnostic center and a variety of health services (from rehabilitation to beauty treatments) offered by leading clinical specialists. The University of Tartu Hospital administers its clinical services within the health center.

This progression was preceded in 2020 by the opening of Health Centre 1, housing providers of primary family medicine, occupational health, and physiotherapy services. Visitors will also encounter the surgical clinic Aurora, boasting three multifunctional operating theatres, and the tech-driven startup accelerator Health Founders.

As Ulemiste City continues to shape the Baltic region's healthcare landscape, expect this bustling hub to deliver healthcare, innovation, and urban development in perfect harmony through its mixed-use model.
