Injured dancer from Hong Kong's 2022 Mirror concert concert shares first image of self post-accident
In a significant development, Hong Kong dancer Lee Kai Yin has shared the first photo of his face since he was paralyzed in a tragic incident at the Hong Kong Coliseum during a Mirror concert in July 2022. The incident involved an LED video screen suspended above the stage that fell, injuring two back-up dancers, including Lee.
The image, shared on Instagram on Thursday (Jul 24), shows Lee with a filter applied, revealing a surgical scar near his collarbone from a tracheotomy. This marks a significant step in his recovery progress and public communication after three years.
Lee's caption on Instagram read simply, "It's me!", indicating a positive and hopeful attitude. The post was intended to receive energy and encouragement from others, reflecting his cautiously optimistic approach to life.
Lee has left Hong Kong to continue his treatment and rehabilitation overseas. Despite the challenges, he maintains a positive outlook, as seen in his social media posts.
Legal developments have also been in Lee's favour. A Hong Kong court has ruled in his favour regarding compensation claims, acknowledging his permanent paralysis from the neck down and ordering his former employer dance studio to compensate him. The estimated compensation could be more than HK$3.5 million (around US$445,890), reflecting his pre-accident earnings and the severity of his incapacity.
