Tomsk, May 6 - RIA Tomsk. After a whopping 40.8 million rubles from the regional budget, a state-of-the-art Ophthalmology Referral Center is now operational in Tomsk Regional Clinical Hospital (TOKB). The hospital plans to invest an additional nearly 28 million rubles for advanced equipment by fall 2025, as announced by the press service of the regional administration on Tuesdays.
Previously, Tomsk regional authorities were mulling over the idea of establishing high-tech specialized medical centers across the region. Contenders included centers for pulmonology, endocrinology, and ophthalmology. The regional ophthalmology center was slated to open at TOKB by 2025.
"(On Tuesday) Tomsk regional governor Vladimir Mazur unveiled the Ophthalmology Referral Center in TOKB. Equipped with cutting-edge medical equipment, the center boasts automatic projectors, tonometers, autorefractometers, and ophthalmological lasers," the statement reads.
It's worth noting that the center also features specialized equipment for ultrasound and CT scans, surgical tools. The decision to create the center was made back in 2023 in response to a surge in eye-related health issues among Tomsk residents.
"We've equipped this center with top-tier equipment. Our Siberian State Medical University is training top-class ophthalmologists, ensuring residents of the region receive quality diagnosis and prompt treatment for eye diseases," Mazur is quoted as saying.
Referring to the center's head Sergey Malikov, the press release continues, "Currently, specialists can diagnose patients with a range of eye diseases, perform complex surgeries for glaucoma and cataract patients. Additionally, patients can receive referrals for specialized treatment."
While specific details regarding a dedicated high-tech medical center for pulmonology, endocrinology, or ophthalmology are scarce in recent reports, the Tomsk scientific community is making strides in healthcare advancements:
- The Tomsk National Research Medical Center (TNRMC) plays a key role[3], with no detailed information about new specialized centers available in the documents.
- Collaborative developments in medical research are apparent, such as local companies expanding pharmaceutical exports[4], which may indirectly support healthcare infrastructure.
- Climate-related health concerns are being addressed in regional strategies, as underscored by discussions at the Northern Forum[1], suggesting alignment with public health initiatives, albeit not explicitly linked to specialized centers.
For accurate and up-to-date details on upcoming medical facilities, it's advisable to consult regional authorities or recent government announcements. The available materials primarily focus on research institutions and economic partnerships, rather than specific healthcare infrastructure projects.
