The province of Manitoba has announced measles exposures at the New Life Fellowship Church and School, located in southern Manitoba.

On September 7, 2021, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the New Life Fellowship Church in Hochfeld, Manitoba, experienced a measles exposure. The following day, on September 8, 2021, the New Life Fellowship School in the same region had a measles exposure between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that can lead to complications such as ear infections, diarrhea, pneumonia, and encephalitis. Symptoms usually appear within seven to 21 days of exposure and include fever, runny nose, drowsiness, irritability, and red eyes. Small white spots can also develop on the inside of the mouth or throat during the initial stage of measles. Following the initial symptoms, a red blotchy rash appears on the face and moves down the body.

Anyone who was at the New Life Fellowship Church or School during the specified times should monitor for symptoms for three weeks. Public health officials are asking anyone who was present during these times to check their immunization records.
