Multiple occurrences planned for Dementia Awareness Week
The Bavarian Dementia Week is set to take place in Bayreuth from the 19th to the 28th of September. This week-long event, focused on dementia awareness and education, offers a wide range of online and in-person activities for those affected, their families, and caregivers.
All the online lectures will be held via Microsoft Teams, and participation is free, with a device with internet access required. The event portal for Bayreuth and its surroundings, Stadt Land Leben, is the perfect place to find more information about the events.
On Monday, 22nd September, a free online lecture titled "Love in the Box - Intimacy of and for people with dementia" will be held from 4 pm to 5:30 pm. Registration is necessary via the Fachstelle für Demenz und Pflege Oberfranken by email at [email protected] or by phone at 09281 / 57 500.
On the same day, the senior citizens' office at the Rotmaincenter will inform about consulting and support services for seniors and present its latest support offer, the care support point, on 24th September.
On Wednesday, 24th September, a free online lecture on understanding and preventing dementia will take place from 5 pm to 6 pm. Registration is required as well, and can be done via the same contact details provided above.
On Thursday, 25th September, a free online lecture titled "Nutrition and dental hygiene in people with dementia" will take place from 4:30 pm to 6 pm. Registration for this event is also required and can be done via the Fachstelle für Demenz und Pflege Oberfranken.
The Alzheimer's Society Bayreuth-Kulmbach will offer free rides with their care rickshaw on 20th September to draw attention to World Alzheimer's Day.
On 23rd September, a dementia tour and a lecture on "Alzheimer's and other dementias" will take place at the Black Box in Bayreuth.
An "Active Day" will occur at the BRK Old Town Park on 23rd September, in cooperation with several organizations, presenting a wide range of offers for people with dementia and their relatives. Registration for the "Active Day" is possible until 17th September.
Dr. med. Christian Mauerer will give a lecture on "Dementia prevention - How to keep your mind fit!" on 24th September at the Old Laundry at the Bayreuth District Hospital.

The events of the Fachstelle Demenz und Pflege Oberfranken on Monday, 29th September 2025, will include an online "Demenz-Stunde" (Dementia Hour) organized by the Evangelisches Bildungswerk München e.V. and Münchner Bildungswerk e.V..
A "Creative Workshop with Martina Schnoedt" for those affected and relatives will take place at the BRK Old Town Park on 26th September. Registration is necessary via the BRK Old Town Park.
Lastly, a "free dementia screening" will be offered on 26th September at the Bayreuth District Office, in cooperation with the Digital Dementia Register (DigiDEM).
