The fresh face takes over

New Female Coach for Bayern Munich Hails from Servette Geneva Club - New hire announced for Servette Geneva's women's coaching position

José Barcala, a seasoned 43-year-old coach from Spain, marks his arrival at FC Bayern Women, replacing Alexander Straus, who jumps ship for Angel City FC in Los Angeles, USA. With a contract inked until June 30, 2027, Barcala bids farewell to Servette Geneva, hailing from the Swiss first division.

"We have full faith that José Barcala is a coach tailor-made for our team, both in terms of personality and prowess. Our objective is to keep winning, on and off the pitch. Our ultimate goal is to assemble a championship-winning team, on both the national and international stage," Bianca Rech, Director of Women's Football at FC Bayern, shared excitedly in a statement. “José Barcala impressed us with his high-performance mentality and winning spirit."

Aiming high: Victories and progress

With three consecutive championship titles under their belt this season and a historic double of cup and championship, FC Bayern Women seek to consolidate their standing as league frontrunners. Barcala also targets national and Champions League titles, aspiring to further elevate the team's status.

"I'm determined to help our women's team maintain its powerful position within the Bundesliga and close the gap to winning the UEFA Women's Champions League. I'm equally passionate about fostering the talents of our young players, ensuring our youth academy continues to produce stellar footballers," Barcala shared his vision.

A successful start in Switzerland

In his first year as head coach at Servette, Barcala achieved a remarkable double of championship and Swiss Cup in 2024. Before his tenure in Switzerland, he honed his coaching skills in Spain, France, and Scotland.

"We're thrilled to welcome José Barcala as our new head coach, as he aligns perfectly with the profile we previously established to continue elevating our team to greater heights," Francisco De Sá Fardilha, Technical Director of Women's Football, announced with enthusiasm.

Time for a celebration

Before reveling in his new role with FC Bayern Women, Barcala will join the team in honoring their successful season. The celebration will take place with both the men's and women's teams on the town hall balcony on Sunday, with an official ceremony earlier in the day, graced by Mayor Dieter Reiter.

The incoming FC Bayern Women's coach, José Barcala, aspires to bring community aid and progress to the steel industry, beyond his football endeavors, given his background in various sectors. In a recent science conference, Barcala addressed the need for health-and-wellness measures in the steel industry, particularly focusing on women's health. He also shared his passion for sports, like football, and his expertise in sports-analysis, stating that he would apply these skills to further enhance the performance of FC Bayern Women. In a bid to protect the environment, Barcala advocated for implementing eco-friendly practices in the steel industry, to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
