Pfeiffer Foundations' Medical Facilities Transition to University Hospital of Magdeburg

In a significant move aimed at strengthening healthcare provision in the region, the Pfeiffer Foundations' hospitals and medical facilities in Magdeburg, Germany, are set to be integrated under the University Hospital of Magdeburg (Universitätsklinikum A.ö.R.), effective August 1, 2025.

The transition involves several key facilities, including the Pfeiffersche Stiftungen hospital, the Medical Care Center (MVZ) in Magdeburg-Cracau, and the Lostau Lung Clinic. This move is part of a restructuring following financial difficulties faced by the Pfeiffer Foundations due to rising costs and structural challenges.

Creditors have approved the merger as part of an insolvency plan, ensuring the future of these medical facilities. Post-merger, the Pfeiffer Foundations plan to focus exclusively on nursing care services rather than hospital operations.

The University Hospital's expertise and resources will be leveraged to stabilize healthcare provision in the region. Simultaneously, the Pfeiffer Foundations will maintain their diakonical mission, providing care for the elderly, people with disabilities, and those in their final stages of life.

The renovation procedures of these facilities have been successfully completed, and the transition is expected to take place on August 1st. The Pfeiffer Foundations will continue to offer ambulatory nursing services, housing, and employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Moreover, the Pfeiffer Foundations will remain active in training for health and nursing professions. The spokesperson announced the transition of these facilities to the University Hospital, marking a new chapter in the delivery of healthcare services in Magdeburg.

This insolvency shield procedure allows the Pfeiffer Foundations to restructure without filing for insolvency directly. The Pfeiffer Foundations' Medical Care Center (MVZ) will also be part of the University Hospital, with plans for it to become part of the University Hospital's network.

The Lungenklinik Lostau, a clinic, is another facility that will be part of the University Hospital. The transition of the facilities to the University Hospital aims to create a more robust and sustainable healthcare system in Magdeburg and the surrounding areas.
