Publishing partner of our magazine, the editorially independent arm of the national science agency, has decided on restructuring their magazine division following a comprehensive review.

Redesigning the User Experience on Our Platform

In a significant development, CSIRO Publishing, the editorialy independent publishing arm of the national science agency, has announced the termination of the popular Cosmos Magazine platform. The final print edition will be published in June 2025, coinciding with the cessation of digital subscriptions.

All subscribers will be refunded their remaining subscription term, details of which can be found below. The move comes in response to escalating production costs and a broader trend of audiences shifting away from print magazines towards digital platforms.

The online news service offered by Cosmos will continue to operate at its current website. However, later in the year, it will transition to CSIRO Publishing’s new digital destination for science content. This revamped platform will merge peer-reviewed journals, e-books, and fact-based science news, with the aim of fostering a more sustainable future by bringing together audiences.

A dedicated team of journalists will be employed to continue publishing articles about the latest scientific discoveries and interviews with scientists on the new site. Subscribers are encouraged to sign up for Cosmos newsletters to stay updated on these developments.

Cost pressures and changing reader habits are the primary reasons behind this decision. The print and digital editions of Cosmos Magazine, while ceasing publication in June 2025, will not mark the end of science journalism. Instead, an enhanced, comprehensive online service will carry forward the tradition.

Cosmos Magazine expresses its deepest gratitude to the writers, staff, and readers who have supported the platform over the years.
