Regulating traffic during Travemünde Week festival
In the heart of summer, from July 18th to 19th, 2025, traffic checks were conducted in conjunction with the 136th Travemünde Week. A combined team of officers from Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, and Lübeck's municipal public order service took part in these checks, aiming to minimize risks and ensure traffic safety for all participants.
The focus of the action was to check the sobriety of traffic participants. During the checks, one cyclist was found to have a breath alcohol level of 1.6 per mille, which led to the cyclist being prohibited from further driving. Car drivers with levels between 1.2 and 1.4 per mille were also found during the checks. In all cases, the police seized the driver's licenses and prohibited further driving with vehicles requiring a driver's license.
Three instances of seat belt violations were discovered during the checks, emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety regulations. Additionally, one driver was found to be driving without valid insurance, and another lacked appropriate child seats. Enforcement officers initiated proceedings against four more persons for administrative offenses related to alcohol consumption. A total of 11 blood samples were taken, with 6 samples taken due to suspicion of driving under the influence and 5 due to suspected drug consumption.
The police emphasize the importance of targeted checks at major events like the Travemünde Week. Similar measures are planned for future major events to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. However, as of July 27, 2025, no documented public reports or official announcements regarding sobriety checks at Travemünde Week 2025 could be found. For more detailed information about sobriety checks during that event or relevant future plans, it may be necessary to consult local law enforcement press releases, municipal event authorities, or news sources directly covering Travemünde Week 2025.
- During future major events, such as health-and-wellness conferences or sports tournaments, one might expect similar traffic safety measures to be implemented, following the model set by the 136th Travemünde Week.
- To ensure the wellness of all participants, it would be wise for science to investigate potential correlations between participation in sports and adherence to traffic safety rules, similar to the relation between health and alcohol consumption.
