Rising Star Kalvin Gourgues Overcomes Rare Health Issue to Shine at Stade Toulousain

Kalvin Gourgues, a 20-year-old rugby player, has made significant strides in his career. Despite facing a rare health issue, he has proven his potential to become an international-standard player. Now, he's making waves at Stade Toulousain.

Gourgues' journey began at Stade Toulousain at the age of 12. He has since won multiple youth championships, including the Champion of France Crabos in 2022 and double champion of France Espoirs in 2023 and 2024. His impressive performances led to his professional debut at 18, following in the footsteps of legends like Frédéric Michalak and Clément Poitrenaud.

Gourgues' skills in the air, strength in contact, and ability to play multiple positions have caught the eye of coach Jean-Luc Vannuchi, who selected him for the Under-20 World Cup in Italy. Despite facing competition from experienced players like Ahki and Barassi, Gourgues has played three successful matches this season, including a start against Castres.

However, Gourgues' career has not been without challenges. He suffered a blood clot in the popliteal artery of his left leg, requiring surgery. After recovering, he played three matches with the Espoirs and was selected for the Under-20 World Cup, playing four matches as a starter. While praised for his immense talent, physical strength, and speed, Gourgues lacks experience and needs to manage his emotions better.

Kalvin Gourgues, under contract with Stade Toulousain until 2028, has shown great potential. With his skills and dedication, he could become an international-standard player. Despite facing competition and setbacks, Gourgues continues to impress, making two appearances in the 'fifteen type' of the weekend of L'Équipe this season. His future in rugby looks promising.
