Rising Trend in Wagering on Female Athletic Events Revealed by YouGov Survey

In a recent survey conducted by YouGov, an international online research data and analytics technology group, it was found that women's football is gaining traction among UK sports bettors. The survey, which received responses from 2,500 male and 2,500 female bettors, was aimed at understanding the interest in women's sports and betting habits related to them.

The survey, conducted in August 2023, revealed that women's soccer is one of the top four sports watched by both male and female sports bettors. However, the specific sport that received the most responses in the survey regarding interest in women's football was not explicitly mentioned in the available search results.

The study also found that women's sports are equally attractive for both male and female bettors. Approximately 60% of male and female sports bettors who placed wagers at least once a month stated they were actively watching or following women's sports. This figure was mirrored in the number of bettors expressing interest in men's sports, with 81% of male bettors and 96% of female bettors who watch women's sports also expressing interest in men's sports.

Interestingly, more than 60% of female bettors and 46% of male bettors who were familiar with betting on women's sports expressed a desire for more betting opportunities on women's soccer. Similarly, 23% of bets were recorded for women's soccer, boxing, cricket, rugby, and men's tennis. This suggests a growing demand for more betting options on women's sports.

The survey also highlighted the reasons behind the lack of betting on women's sports. Approximately 38% of male sports bettors said they never considered betting on women's soccer due to a lack of knowledge. Similarly, 34% of male respondents used "lack of knowledge" as the main reason for not betting on women's soccer.

The study, which was funded by StatsPerform and Women's Sports Group, also found that two-thirds of female bettors who are actively interested in women's sports are 45 or younger. This indicates a growing trend of younger generations showing interest in women's sports and betting on them.

Lastly, the survey revealed that nine out of 10 male and female bettors expressed their desire to watch women's sports in the upcoming year. This is a positive sign for the growth and popularity of women's sports in the UK.

The findings of this survey suggest a growing interest in women's sports among UK sports bettors. As more and more people become aware of the opportunities to bet on women's sports, it is expected that this interest will continue to grow, leading to increased visibility and support for women's sports in the UK.
