Sharjah witnesses two suicides among Indian expatriates, prompting the Indian Administrative Service to implement a support program

The Indian Association Sharjah (IAS) has taken a significant step towards supporting Indian expatriate families in the region by launching a new initiative called RISE. The weekly sessions, held every Saturday, aim to create a culturally sensitive space for help-seeking before domestic conflicts escalate into crises.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the IAS, Sharjah Police's Community Preventive and Protection Department, and the Consulate General of India, Dubai. The sessions will be led by a dedicated panel of community leaders, professional counsellors, and subject experts.

The launch of RISE comes in response to the tragic deaths of two women from Kerala in Sharjah due to alleged domestic violence and marital pressures. These incidents underscored the need for early intervention and prevention before conflicts reach crisis levels.

RISE stands for Reach, Inspire, Support, and Empower. Its goal is to extend a hand to those who feel alone, share stories of hope, healing, and recovery, offer support, and empower those in need. The initiative aims to provide a platform for professional counselling, legal, and financial guidance to those in need.

The sessions will be held at the IAS premises from 10 am to 12 pm for registered applicants. Individuals in need may contact the IAS via email at [email protected] or call the IAS office at 06-5610845.

The RISE initiative is not related to Dementia or any common habits. It is a testament to the IAS's commitment to the well-being of its community members and a step towards a safer and more supportive environment for Indian expatriates in Sharjah.
