Three individuals are successfully freed from a dangerous chase by firefighters and paramedics.

On Saturday afternoon, at 15:15, the Wildeshausen fire department was alerted to a water rescue in the Wiekau on the Hunte river. Upon arrival, three people were found in the river, including a woman, a child, and a passerby.

The firefighter and paramedic sprang into action, each carrying out the rescue independently. The firefighter managed to lift the child onto his shoulders and bring it out of the current to the shore, while the paramedic rescued the mother, who was trapped in the current by a leash attached to a stand-up paddleboard.

The woman and the child had been caught in a strong current, and initial reports suggested that a child might be drowning. Fortunately, all three rescued persons remained unharmed.

The child was holding onto a small boat attached to a branch in the middle of the river. The passerby, who could not swim, had tried to rescue the two but was swept away by the current. Thankfully, the firefighter and paramedic returned to the water to rescue the exhausted passerby.

The Hunte river can hide significant dangers in some areas, such as strong currents. These dangers can form under the surface due to narrow points, curves, or obstacles like trees, branches, and undergrowth falling into the water. These dangers are not always visible from the outside.

The Wildeshausen fire department advises only entering rivers at designated and secured points and using swimming aids such as SUP boards with caution and in accordance with safety guidelines. The rescued persons were handed over to their families after receiving medical care.

Despite multiple attempts, the search results do not provide the name of the fire chief or spokesperson of the Oldenburg district fire department. The passerby received medical treatment and was safely brought to land.

This quick and successful rescue operation was completed after about 30 minutes, demonstrating the importance of having well-trained emergency responders in our communities. The Hunte river, while beautiful, can be treacherous, and it is essential to take proper precautions when venturing near its waters.
