Unveiling of Apple Watch Series 8 and the Fresh Apple Watch SE by Apple
Apple Unveils watchOS 9: Enhanced Health Features, Sleep Tracking, and More
Apple has announced the latest update to its watchOS, version 9, which brings a host of new features to Apple Watch users. The update is set to be available for Apple Watch Series 4 and later on September 12, and requires iPhone 8 or later and iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later running iOS 16.
One of the most significant additions to watchOS 9 is the AFib History feature. This innovative tool provides users with an estimate of how frequently their heart rhythm shows signs of Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) and offers deeper insights into their condition. However, it's worth noting that the search results do not provide information on which countries allow the use of this feature.
Sleep tracking has also received an upgrade in watchOS 9. The new sleep tracking feature estimates when users are in REM, Core, or Deep sleep, providing a more comprehensive understanding of sleep patterns.
The Workout app in watchOS 9 has been revamped with new in-session views such as Segments, Splits, and Elevation, as well as advanced workout experiences like Heart Rate Zones, Custom Workouts, Pacer, and Race Route.
In addition to these health-focused features, watchOS 9 also introduces international roaming, allowing users to stay connected while traveling abroad. This feature will be a boon for frequent travellers, ensuring they remain connected even in foreign lands.
The Medications experience on Apple Watch and iPhone is another notable addition. This feature helps users manage and track their medications, vitamins, and supplements, making it easier to stay on top of their health regimen.
The Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE are also making a debut. The Series 8 will be available in aluminum and stainless steel cases in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm, and is compatible with all bands. The Apple Watch SE maintains the same case design, but features a redesigned matching back case made of a nylon composite material, making it lighter than ever.
The Compass app in watchOS 9 offers more in-depth information and three distinct views, including a new hybrid view, an orienteering view, and a Backtrack feature that helps users retrace their steps.
The new Low Power Mode can extend battery life to up to 36 hours for Apple Watch Series 8 with iPhone present.
Both the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE are available for order, with availability starting on September 16. The Series 8 starts at $399 (US) and the SE starts at $249 (US).
With these new features and updates, watchOS 9 promises to be a comprehensive upgrade for Apple Watch users, offering enhanced health tracking, improved sleep management, and more.
