Veterinary specialists at AniCura Hamburg prioritize cutting-edge ophthalmology care, with the acquisition of a novel ultrasound device enhancing diagnosis and treatment procedures.
In a significant move towards advancing veterinary care, AniCura Veterinary Specialists Hamburg GmbH has acquired a new, state-of-the-art ultrasound device for ophthalmology diagnostics. This equipment, specifically designed for ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM), will enable more precise and gentle diagnosis of complex cases in veterinary ophthalmology.
The practice, which specialises in ophthalmology and dermatology for dogs, cats, and small animals, is managed by Thomas Rieker, Head of Medical at AniCura Germany. Rieker emphasises the importance of technological advancement in veterinary medicine, stating that it is crucial for delivering the highest quality care to pet owners and referring practices in northern Germany.
The new ultrasound device, which has been in use since June 24, 2025, has already been successfully applied to several patients. One such case involved a Golden Retriever, where UBM helped identify a suspected foreign body as a harmless cyst membrane remnant. This discovery avoided an unnecessary surgical intervention and enabled the correct therapy, demonstrating the device's potential to significantly impact veterinary care.
AniCura, a leading European provider of high-quality veterinary care for small animals, headquartered in Sweden, has nearly 500 locations across 17 countries. In Germany, AniCura operates at 80 locations with nearly 3,000 employees dedicated to animal health and well-being daily. The company's mission, "Shaping the future of veterinary care, together," is evident in its continuous efforts to invest in cutting-edge technology.
The practice offers a wide range of veterinary services, including preventive and primary care, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, nutritional counseling, and specialized diagnostics such as allergy tests and breeding examinations. AniCura's commitment to providing the highest quality care is further underscored by its use of state-of-the-art equipment like digital radiography, laser applications, and an in-house laboratory for quick and reliable diagnoses.
Dr. med. vet. Maren Dölle, Dipl. ECVD and head of AniCura Veterinary Specialists Hamburg, is thrilled about the new device. She states that it offers more precise diagnostics, which is essential for ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients.
JANINA BRUCKMANN, MBA, is the Head of Marketing & Corporate Affairs for AniCura in Germany. She expresses her excitement about the new addition, stating that it opens up new possibilities in eye care and underscores AniCura's commitment to providing the highest quality care to pet owners and referring practices in northern Germany.
As the number of examinations using the device is expected to increase significantly in the coming months, AniCura Veterinary Specialists Hamburg GmbH is poised to make a significant impact on veterinary care in Germany.
