Victims of Rape and Unsolicited Recording
38-Year-Old Rapist in Berlin Facing Trial for Four Additional Incidents
A 38-year-old man is set to stand trial in Berlin Regional Court beginning on October 2, 2021, for four incidents of rape against two women. The court proceedings are scheduled for eleven trial days until the end of November.
The new allegations against the defendant involve him writing misogynistic words on the body of an unconscious woman and recording the incidents with his phone. These allegations come in addition to the charges he already faces for raping helpless persons.
The defendant was previously sentenced to five and a half years in prison for a rape that occurred in April 2022. The victim of that incident was an unconscious high school graduate.
The trial has been prompted by the new allegations that came to light during the first trial when the court examined the defendant's phone. The court described the crime as a "disturbing scene."
The defendant has been in custody since his arrest in April 2025. One incident occurred in February 2020, and the others occurred between March and June 2021.
The victim, a 23-year-old woman, still suffers from the physical and psychological consequences of the incident. If convicted in the new trial, the Berlin public prosecutor's office is seeking preventive detention for the man.
The victim, along with another co-plaintiff, has lodged an appeal. The defendant has claimed in the trial that the sexual acts were consensual, but the verdict is not yet final.
It is important to note that no verifiable details about the accused’s previous criminal record or sentencing appear in the obtained sources. For up-to-date or detailed criminal history, local criminal justice records or official court documents from Berlin jurisdiction would be required.
The trial is a significant event in Berlin's ongoing efforts to address sexual violence and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
In light of the upcoming trial, the 38-year-old defendant may face additional charges for his sexual misconduct, involving misogynistic words and recording incidents without consent. This trial intersects with the health-and-wellness and sexual-health categories, as the implications of sexual violence can have long-lasting physical and psychological effects, such as those experienced by the victim. Additionally, the incident highlights the importance of the general-news category, demonstrating the ongoing struggle against sexual violence and the pursuit of justice, which is a key element in health-and-wellness and crime-and-justice domains.
