Vietnam's Field Hospital Team Performs First Emergency Appendectomy in Ghana
Vietnam's Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation No 7, operational for just a week, has achieved a remarkable milestone. The team successfully performed its first emergency appendectomy, saving a Ghanaian soldier from severe appendicitis.
The soldier, admitted with intense right lower abdominal pain, was diagnosed with suspected acute appendicitis at risk of rupture. Despite handling logistics and facility setup simultaneously, the hospital activated UN-standard emergency protocols and approved the surgery that night.
The medical team, displaying professionalism and teamwork, performed the emergency appendectomy. The soldier was then transferred to the ICU and was fully conscious, responding well to the treatment. This successful operation was part of the hospital's first week, during which they treated a total of 36 patients, including 18 emergencies.
In its first week, Vietnam's Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation No 7 has demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill. Despite the challenges of a new operation and simultaneous logistics setup, the team successfully performed an emergency appendectomy, ensuring uninterrupted care for their patients.
