Wandering Canine from Rostov Region, After Seven-Month Journey Post-Accident, Undergoes Amputation in Peter
Mitya, a paralyzed dog, is making remarkable progress in his recovery journey. The unfortunate incident occurred back in September 2024 when Mitya was hit by a car, leading to numerous injuries.
Initially, Mitya went missing, but in the spring of the following year, he approached people, and was subsequently taken to a vet. The veterinary examination revealed multiple old fractures and other injuries. The decision was made to amputate one of Mitya's legs, and a titanium disc will be installed on the remaining leg to aid his mobility.
Following the surgery, Mitya has been under the temporary care of a zoovolunteer from St. Petersburg. This kind-hearted individual has been providing Mitya with shelter, exercise, and the necessary rehabilitation to help him recover fully.
Despite the amputation, there is a possibility that Mitya could walk on three legs, as he has been showing signs of improvement. He no longer drags his hind legs on the ground, a condition that had prevented his wounds from healing.
The cost of Mitya's surgery was estimated at 150,000 rubles, but thanks to the generosity of caring people from all over Russia, the funds were raised to cover the expenses. Yulia Adimova, the director of a shelter for stray animals in Rostov-on-Don, expressed her gratitude for the support, stating that Mitya lay down before people, showing his vulnerability and need for help.
