In a recent development, Elsevier has retracted a scientific article due to plagiarism and serious ethical breaches. The article, which presented a case series of radiological and clinical insights on hepatic and extra-hepatic hydatid cysts, among other topics, was found to have violated the publisher's stringent anti-plagiarism policies.

According to Elsevier's policies, all submitted work must be entirely original, and all sources should be properly cited. Verbatim copying without proper attribution or permission is not allowed, and such instances are considered a severe abuse of the scientific publishing system. The article in question appears to have plagiarized previously published works in Vietnam, as evidenced by the sources available at http://www.sieuamvietnam.vn/cls-xhns-thai-ky and http://www.sieuamvietnam.vn/hoi-chung-joubert-bao-cao-ca-va-hoi-cuu-y-van.

When plagiarism is detected, Elsevier considers retraction of the article as a last resort corrective action. Retractions are decided after consultation with the journal’s Ethics Committee and Elsevier’s Research Integrity & Publishing Ethics Center. The article in question was retracted due to clear evidence of plagiarism.

Consequences for plagiarizing authors typically involve retraction of the published article, public notices or retraction statements explaining the reasons, loss of credibility, potential damage to the author's academic reputation, possible notifications to the author's institutions or funding agencies, and more.

The author of the retracted article recognizes the severity of the ethical breach and offers apologies to the readers of the journal. The article does not seem to provide information about sharing on platforms like Twitter or Facebook. Additionally, it does not offer any new conditions or guidelines for submission of papers for publication nor does it provide any information about a Telegram channel for updates.

The retracted article also discussed a rare case of spontaneous hemopneumothorax presenting with severe hemodynamic instability, a very rare case of ileocolic and appendiceal intussusception with acute appendicitis, and the mid-term follow-up of a fractured flow diverter in the internal carotid artery. However, these valuable contributions are now overshadowed by the ethical breaches that led to the article's retraction.

The scientific community takes a very strong view on plagiarism, and Elsevier maintains strict policies to uphold research integrity. Re-use of any data should be appropriately cited to avoid such incidents in the future.
