Women's rebellion: Initial gathering of "Rehragout-Rendezvous" in Crimea
In the crime comedy "Rehragout-Rendezvous" from the Eberhofer series, village policeman Franz Eberhofer (Sebastian Bezzel and Simon Schwarz) finds himself in a whirlwind of chaos when a local Steckerlfisch king goes missing, only to be found later murdered in a gruesome manner. The investigation is just one part of the puzzle as life on the Eberhofer farm undergoes a significant transformation.
Enzi Fuchs, portrayed as a strong, mischievous, and fragile character, retires as Oma Eberhofer and joins a hippie commune, disrupting the usual comfort of home-cooked Bavarian meals. This departure signifies a generational change and challenges the household’s established order.
Susi, played by Potthoff, takes on the role of deputy mayor, initially unsure of her position but eventually discovering professional ambition. Her promotion places her in a position of authority not only at work but also in directing Franz's personal responsibilities, requiring him to balance policing with fatherhood—a reversal of more traditional gender expectations.
The film explores themes of women’s power and less tolerance for men’s antics, with Susi's character entering the story in a pink Barbie costume, which may not represent a vanguard of women’s liberation. However, the script places limits on Susi’s self-confidence initially, only for her character to grow and assert herself throughout the story.
The film also features Metzger Simmerl, Wirt Wolfi, and Flötzinger helping Franz rediscover his masculinity, while the title character Rudi Birkenberger (also played by Bezzel and Schwarz) investigates the case. The film discusses the fair division of work and household chores, with some characters appearing old-fashioned in their views.
The film serves as a signal to the male world that it is no longer possible to comfortably nest in the macho niche, even in remote corners. It challenges traditional gender roles and power dynamics, reflecting contemporary discussions about gender equality in both private and public life.
"Rehragout-Rendezvous" is based on the 11th book of Rita Falk's crime series and was released two years ago. The film will be shown again in the "ARD-Sommerkino" series on Monday, 11 August, at 8:15 pm on the first channel. Some jokes in the film may no longer be fresh, but the change of perspective does the story good.
